Relocating to Ghana, I quickly realized a significant issue within the real estate sector: it lacks proper regulation. While sectors like banking and finance are overseen by institutions like the Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission, the real estate sector operates without such regulation. This void has unfortunately given rise to unprofessionalism and fraudulent activities within the industry.
Determined to change this narrative and uplift the standards of real estate agents in Ghana, I embarked on an initiative to provide extensive training courses. These courses were designed to nurture professionalism within the industry and cleanse it of unethical practices. As a result, it became evident that individuals residing overseas faced a challenge when attempting to connect with reliable real estate agents or brokers.
The Birth of GAREB
In response to this challenge, I, along with like-minded professionals, founded the Ghana Association of Real Estate Brokers (GAREB). Our mission was clear: to sanitize the real estate sector and make it easier for individuals, both local and abroad, to find trustworthy real estate brokers who could assist them with their property transactions.
What GAREB Offers
Real estate brokers affiliated with GAREB undergo a rigorous vetting process. Their businesses are registered, and they are subjected to comprehensive criminal background checks to ensure there is no history of criminal activity. Furthermore, GAREB members are required to complete training courses, adhere to a strict code of ethics, and utilize standardized forms for all real estate transactions, from tenancy agreements to sales and purchase agreements.
